🌿 Other Pests & Diseases

Honey bees, like all livestock, can face a range of pests and diseases influenced by climate, seasonal conditions, and the surrounding environment. Responsible beekeeping means regularly monitoring hive health and taking preventative action when needed.

At Pure Coastal Honey, we conduct routine hive inspections to check for signs of pests and disease, including conditions such as American Foulbrood (AFB), chalkbrood, wax moth activity, and other environmental stresses that may affect colony strength.

American Foulbrood (AFB) is a serious bacterial disease that affects developing bee larvae. While uncommon, it is carefully monitored across Australia, and strict biosecurity rules exist to prevent its spread. If ever suspected, we follow all NSW biosecurity requirements to protect both our bees and the wider beekeeping community.

Other challenges, such as seasonal pests or fungal brood diseases, are typically managed through strong colony health, good hive management, and maintaining balanced, resilient bee populations.

Importantly, these issues relate to hive health — not the safety of the honey itself. Our focus is always on prevention, early detection, and responsible management so that our bees remain healthy and productive.

By caring for the wellbeing of our colonies, we ensure the honey you enjoy is produced with care, transparency, and respect for the environment.
